History Intent Statement

At Longhoughton CE Primary School, our intent is to provide a broad and balanced curriculum both within and beyond the classroom which stimulates all children to gain a coherent knowledge and understanding of Britain’s past and that of the wider world. Through progressive and sequential teaching of subject content, concepts and chronology, children at Longhoughton CE Primary School achieve challenging outcomes and develop their skills as young historians. Our topic based approach allows for creative cross curricular links to be made and ensures opportunities for children to apply their skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing.

As well as inspiring a love of history, our curriculum promotes an enquiry based approach to learning which prepares children to be confident and engaged citizens of their world who understand and that all sources of information may not represent objective ‘truth’.
