Curriculum Intent Statement
Our Christian Vision is that – Everyone is welcome.
This is founded in 1 Peter 4:10 – 11 “God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of gifts. Use them well to serve one another.”
To us, this means that we all have something special, and different about us that should be valued, nurtured and celebrated. We all have our individual needs and challenges too. By coming together to support one another to be the very best we can, we create a richly diverse community where we are all valued for who we are and what we can be.
Our curriculum is designed around this ethos, providing learning experiences that are vibrant and varied so that all pupils can access learning and thrive. We are precise about the key knowledge all pupils will learn and learning is designed to promote depth of understanding in each lesson. A coherent sequence of learning enables pupils to build strong foundational knowledge in each subject area, going on to build their substantive and disciplinary knowledge through investigative and practical learning as they move up through school.
Following the National Curriculum, we look to maximise outdoor learning opportunities – using the school pond, the local beach and the surrounding area – and link learning closely to contemporary industry, as well as the diverse historical and modern figures who have helped shape our understanding of the world around us. We enrich our curriculum through trips, visits and wider experiences so that pupils can deepen and contextualise their understanding as much as possible.
The range of experiences we offer support and champion our culture and ensure that our pupils benefit from a range of academic, spiritual, moral, social and cultural activities. These activities enrich the pupil’s lives and those of the whole school community and make them proud of the British vales and diverse society to which we belong. We are proud that our curriculum gives our children the skills, confidence and self-belief to lead happy and fulfilled lives by encouraging them to aim high and work towards their goals and dreams in life.
Our curriculum has been going through a transformational redesign. Therefore some curriculum long term plans are still in development. Updated subject overviews will be added to the website throughout the course of this academic year.
