This week our ‘Super Six’ and ‘Drawing Club’ story was the traditional tale of ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’. We have read a few different versions of the tale and talked about how sometimes the different versions include different parts such as Jack pinching a hen in one and then coins and a golden harp in another.
This week our rainbow challenges have been:
Maths – colour the matching number of pictures
Fine motor – build Jack and his Mother’s house our of lego – can you write a sign to describe your creation?
Literacy – sequence the story of Jack and the Beanstalk and talk through the story
Funky fingers – build a beanstalk using the cubes
Creative – use the different blue, white and red resources to make a medal for VE day
Phonics – find the sounds and build the word to match the picture
ICT – find the missing letter to complete the word (Balloon Phonics)
In maths this week Reception been recapping the work they did with Mrs Coyle and Mrs Fisher last week and exploring number bonds to 10 and missing numbers on a number line up to 20. They have really impressed me with their knowledge of teen’s numbers and representing these with the Numicon pieces showing 1 ten and how many more.
During our nursery rhyme time this week we have been singing ‘5 Little Men in a Flying Saucer’ which can be found using this link: Five little men in a flying saucer - BBC Bitesize
In phonics this week Reception have been working in their new Read Write Inc. groups. Nursery have started their Read Write Inc. phonics with Mrs Archer and have learnt the first 10 sounds m a s d t i n p g o. They have been using these sounds to make words using the magnetic boards and also have started to read some words using these sounds on the flashcards.
On Wednesday morning we received a letter from Jack from our story of Jack and the Beanstalk. He had written us different clues to solve so we could find the different pictures from the story. Once we had collected them all we had to put them in order and we retold the story.
On Thursday it was VE Day and we were treated to a very special lunch from Mrs Hinson. We listened to some war time songs and observed a 2 minute silence at 12pm. We continued our celebrations in the sunshine on Friday where we showed off the medals we had made and enjoyed spending time with our friends and families playing games on the field.
Next week our core text is ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ by Eric Carle linking in with our minibeast topic. We will be tasting different foods and making a very special smoothy as part of our learning.
