27.01.23 Harry and the Bucketful of Dinosaurs

27.01.23

This week our ‘Super Six’ focus story was ‘Harry and his Bucketful of Dinosuars’ by Ian Whybrow. This book has been great for introducing lots of different types of dinosaurs but also has helped us to be able to say and spell them too.

Our role play area has been changed to a dinosaur museum and dig area where we have been able to explore fossils in the sand pit and also look for different features too and mark them off on our checklists.

Our ‘Drawing Club’ focus book has been ‘Where is my Teddy’ by Jez Alborough. We have also really been focusing on the vocabularly part of the session this week and everyone has done really well at remembering the new vocab we have introduced as well as the actions we have put with them to help us remember. It has been fantastic to hear the children mentioning these new words in the classroom as well as at home and also choosing to use some of the words within their independent writing. This week our vocab list has been; humongous, gigantic, gasped, mysterious and apprehensive.

This week our rainbow challenges have been:

Literacy – write a sentence/caption to describe a dinosaur you can see

Maths – colour the number based on how many dots you can see

Fine motor – cut out and sort the dinosaurs into big/small

Funky fingers – draw around the dinosaur stencils to make a Jurassic scene

Creative – use the felt tips and creative resources to decorate a dinosaur

Phonics – phonics CVCC/CCVC words – read the words and find the picture to match to colour in

ICT – phonics CVCC words (forest phonics)

In worship this week we have been listening to Hedwig’s Theme from Harry Potter by John Williams. We have also had Rev Nathanael and Padre Richard to speak to use about the theme of ‘courage’. We have also been practicing ‘This Little Light of Mine’ in singing worship with Mrs Critchlow and Miss Sheridan.

Next week our super six story is going to be ‘Dinosaurs Love Underpants by Claire Freedman. Some of the children have already said that they have read this story before and are excited to read it again.
