16.12.22 The Jolly Christmas Postman
This week our focus story was ‘The Jolly Christmas Postman’ by Janet and Allan Ahlberg. We enjoyed reading this story and coming across some familiar characters from the stories we read as part of our traditional tales topic.
Our role play area is very popular and lots of writing has been going on including writing letters, postcards, labels and writing Christmas cards.
This week our rainbow challenges have been:
Literacy – write a letter to Bertie the Elf
Maths – colour by shape Christmas bauble
Fine motor – split pin elf
Funky fingers – cut and stick Christmas tree
Creative – make a Christmas card
Phonics – Christmas pictures phonics writing list
ICT – interactive decorate the Christmas tree
During NUFC we split into two different teams, team Rudolph and team Santa. We played a ‘snowball fight’ game to see who ended up having the most snowballs in their teams side of the hall. It was great fun and there was lots of encouragement between the teams.
This week in nursery the children have continued to review their learning from the past term and have enjoyed playing rhyming games and listening out for initial sounds.
Reception have learnt 3 new sounds ar or and air and have been listening carefully to these sounds in words to write correctly. They have also been writing a thank you letter to send to Mr Creasey for playing his trumpet in the classroom last week. Everyone tried so hard with their handwriting and used the different pneumonic rhymes to help them with their letter formation.
This week the children have performed three times in their concert of “Lights, Camel, Action”. They all danced beautifully and sung and joined in with the rest of school with some great hand jive actions. It was a great concert and everyone is so proud of each and everyone of them.
On Thursday we thoroughly enjoyed having parents join us for our Christmas stay and play. There were plenty of crafts to make as well as decorating biscuits and everyone seemed to have fun in the festive post office. It was a great opportunity to play alongside the children as well as be able to experience life in the classroom and have a look at some of the work and displays on the walls. The children really enjoyed singing some Christmas songs and everyone seemed to have a good time.
On Friday we had our annual RAF Christmas party at school. We danced our hearts out at the disco, played lots of different party games and thoroughly enjoyed Graeme Shaw the entertainer and magician who really is magic!!! We all got some fabulous photos when we posted in the Christmas photo booth and were treated to a party tea in the afternoon too. It was a great day and we really enjoyed spending time with KS1 and Mrs Critchlow.
Next week we have an equally busy week. Our focus story will be The Nativity to learn about the traditional importance of such a special time of year. We also have a virtual pantomime to look forward to as well as a delicious Christmas lunch cooked by Mrs Hinson and Miss Dodds before we go to church to listen to Reverend Alison for our Christmas service.
We have all had a fantastic first half term in St George Class and we would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and we can’t wait to share more of our learning with you in 2023.
