The Queen's Birthday Celebrations

8th June 2016

On Wednesday 8th June the children, staff and families at Longhoughton CE First School came together to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II’s 90th birthday.

The day began with the children coming to school in clothes that were red, white and blue. They worked together to find out more about the Queen and her life during a whole school worship.

Did you know that the Queen has 9 thrones – 6 at Buckingham Palace?

During the morning the children worked in their classes to decorate bunting, design birthday cakes, decorate crowns (yes with glitter!) and much, much more. The children in France Class (Y4) completed portraits of her Majesty.

Did you know that the Queen has sat over 130 times to her portrait painted?

We think she would be impressed with our final results.

At lunch time parents, younger siblings and grandparents came to join us for a picnic on the playground followed by singing Happy Birthday to the Queen as well as The National Anthem. Everyone then enjoyed games and activities on the field for the afternoon – hook a duck, crazy golf, horseshoes, parachute games and much, much more.
